Steven is a life long resident of Ridgefield, having attended Farmingville Elementary School, East Ridge Middle School, and Ridgefield High School. He earned his JD from Fordham University School of Law, and his BA in Economics from Fairfield University. He has practiced law at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom in Manhattan for the last 13 years, where he is a Counsel in the Real Estate department. Steven’s law practice has an emphasis on finance, primarily in real estate lending, loan structuring, securitization, secondary markets transactions, rating agency issues, leasing, development, and joint ventures.

JOHN PALERMO

John Palermo is not a new face to Ridgefield Public Service. He has lived
in Ridgefield since 1977, is currently on the Board of Education, and is
an IBM Executive with 33 years of experience, 30 of them in Finance.
He has been a leader on several important area’s on the BOE: Contract negotiations, Benefits re-design and delivery [implementing HSA's], working on energy savings and solutions, and promoting transparency regarding school finances [new financial statements].

Excerpts from “Ridgefield’s Mounting Debt”

I am humbled to be a candidate for the Board of Finance. While defending the quality of the Ridgefield Public Schools, I will work to ensure affordability for young families, empty nesters and seniors like my parents, who grudgingly relocated to find retirement housing
Ridgefield’s mounting debt is troubling. This debt threatens the delicate balance between preserving town services, maintaining top quality schools, and keeping taxes low. We are burdened with $100 million in debt, pay $14 million per year in debt service, and have the third highest per capita debt of any municipality in Connecticut. Our AAA credit rating is now under review by the rating agencies. Given the financial crisis that our State and Federal governments face, State aid to Ridgefield will decrease while our federal and state tax burdens increase..
