PRESS RELEASE — February 19, 2010

By a resounding majority vote, the Ridgefield Republican Town Committee has endorsed Robert Merkle’s bid to unseat incumbent freshman Democrat Jim Himes in November. “Rob Merkle represents the new age of politician that should occupy seats in Congress,” said RRTC Chairman Jim Carroll. “Rob’s style and honesty has resonated within the RRTC, and it is our pleasure to endorse him for Congress.”

Merkle, who is from Norwalk, said of the endorsement, “Clearly, I am honored by the RRTC’s endorsement. This is a responsibility I take seriously, and I am grateful for this show of support and encouragement from the people of Ridgefield. I look forward to taking back this seat from Jim Himes, and to fighting for the people of the 4th district in Washington.”

Merkle positions himself as the voice of the people, an entrepreneur and small business owner who believes in reducing the size, scope and burden of the federal government, returning power to the states and restoring individual liberties. “What we are witnessing over the past year is an awakening by the American people, and certainly here in Connecticut, who are standing up against big government and career politicians. They want their lives back.”

Merkle’s governing philosophy is as a constitutional constructionist, “The federal government should be limited to the enumerated powers as outlined in the Constitution. My purpose in going to Washington is to reduce federal government control over our lives, returning responsibility and tax revenue to the people of Connecticut.”

Merkle’s professional background is putting people to work, as he owns a management recruiting firm. “I know firsthand how hard the employment picture is and how difficult it is for the small businessman out there.”
