The Republican ticket of John McCain, Sarah Palin, Chris Shays, Toni Boucher, John Frey, and Hope Wise comprises independently minded reformers committed to fighting for you and not for politics as usual

Since Democrats took over congress its approval rating has plummeted to 17% from 29% two years ago.  During the110th Congress, Barack Obama and Joe Biden ranked in the top 15% in terms of voting along party lines with a 96% and 96.7% record. Conversely, John McCain ranks in the bottom 30% voting along party lines with an 88.3% voting record and our Congressman, Chris Shays, ranks in the bottom 2% with  a 79.6% record.  Shunning the herd instinct of party loyalists, McCain and Shays are independent minded leaders who do their homework to understand what is best for the country.

Obama broke with a majority of Democrats and Republicans in 2007 including Biden and McCain, when he voted against supplying our soldiers with what they needed to fight the war on terror.  At that time, John McCain took the unpopular stand adding resources for victory and not setting a date for defeat.  Obama’s opposition to supporting the troops led Biden to criticize Obama as unready to be President.

Senator John McCain has broken with Republicans on issues such as campaign finance, immigration and carbon emissions.  McCain has called for the reform of mortgage giants Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. Obama took $105,849 from the mortgage industry and now supports a taxpayer funded bailout.

McCain proved he wants to reform Washington by picking proven reformer Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as VP.  Obama’s selection of six term senator Joe Biden, whose voting record is more partisan than Obama’s, as VP, represents business as usual.  Sarah Palin waded into Alaska’s old-boy’s network and took on Republican Party corruption, oil, and pork barrel waste.

When President Clinton faced impeachment, Biden stood by his party leader despite national embarrassment.  Although Obama and Biden claim to want to take on energy and big oil, they supported Democratic House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid when they adjourned Congress accomplishing nothing.  If they cannot reform their own party leaders, how can we expect them to fight for us on what matters?

Toni Boucher and John Frey have been leading with integrity for Connecticut, Fairfield County and Ridgefield for over a decade as minority members of the State Assembly.  When Governor Jodi Rell assumed office under trying circumstances, Toni and John supported her call for sweeping ethics reform and restoring integrity to state government.   In last year’s session when Democrats tried to ram through a tax increase that would have disproportionately increased taxes in Ridgefield, Toni and John were among the few that defended us and stopped that misguided effort.

Our government needs independent reformers like McCain, Palin, Shays, Boucher, Frey and Wise.  Every day, these men and women fight for us and not politics as usual.
