Conservationists Endorse John Frey
September 30th, 2008
The Connecticut League of Conservation Voters has endorsed a bipartisan “green” slate of 45 pro-environment candidates for Connecticut General Assembly, including Ridgefield State Representative John Frey.
“We believe these candidates, if elected or re-elected, will lead Connecticut toward adopting environmental policies that are smart and sustainable over the long run,” the league said.
In their endorsement letter to Representative Frey, CTLCV Executive Director Lori Brown said “we appreciate the time you have devoted to clean air, water, wildlife, open space and energy issues in Connecticut…”
“As you know, CTLCV is a statewide bi-partisan organization that monitors environmental legislation at the State Capitol, and tracks voting records of legislators on important environmental policy. We have endorsed you because we believe your constituents will be well served by your continued strong leadership to make environmental issues a priority,” Ms. Brown added.
Out of 187 legislative races, the CTLCV made endorsements in 45. Only seven of those are Republicans incumbents or candidates.
“I am pleased that the CTLCV have chosen to endorse me, based on my record on environmental issues. I think that I am proof that a Republican – in the proud tradition of Teddy Roosevelt, can provide leadership on environmental matters,” said Rep. Frey.
“If I had to choose one topic that I have surprised myself, it is regarding environmental matters. Issues such as open space, clean air and water were things that – before being elected to the state legislature — I took for granted. The Bennetts Pond acquisition, which I supported from day one, introduced me to issues that I have found myself working side-by-side CTLCV and others who share our concern on these issues, “Rep. Frey added.
“Our endorsements are based on candidates’ record of support for pro-environment policies, their responses to Connecticut League of Conservation Voter’s 2008 survey, and interviews with the league’s board. Rep. Frey scored a 90% during the past legislative session. They plan on publishing their endorsements through media and membership channels and with other concerned voters across the state.
