Ridgefield Republican Town Committee Taps Third Generation Ridgefielder, Business Owner for Board of Finance Appointment

Ridgefield, CT – February 9, 2010

The Ridgefield Republican Town Committee voted on Tuesday to recommend that the Board of Finance (BOF) appoint Margaret Price-Sims to fill the vacancy created by Bob Cascella’s resignation. Margaret, a third generation Ridgefielder, is Vice President of Ridgefield Supply Company, a leading local home building materials supplier.

RTC Chairman Jim Carroll commented that after an interview committee had met with six highly qualified candidates, the consensus was that Margaret’s long-term community involvement and experience actively managing a business made her an ideal candidate to fill the open seat. “The RTC looks for dedicated individuals who have lived in Ridgefield long enough to know its strengths and weaknesses, who have demonstrated  long-term active community involvement and who have the relevant business experience to provide the perspective needed on the BOF.”

Besides serving as a Trustee of the First Congregational Church and Community Ombudsman for the Ridgefield Republican Town Committee, Margaret formed the committee and led the re-building effort for EJ Carfi’s house in Ridgefield.

If Margaret is appointed, she would join recently elected former GE executive Jill Bornstein and Republican veterans Marty Heiser and Pete Gomez. For the first time in the Ridgefield’s history, there would be two women serving on the Board of Finance.

STATEMENT OF RIDGEFIELD RTC CHAIR JAMES CARROLL ON THE FINDINGS OF THE ETHICS BOARD

Ridgefield, CT October 24, 2009 Earlier this month, my counterpart on the Democrat Town Committee launched serious charges impugning the ethics of several candidates for municipal office. My response at the time was that, “facts are stubborn things”. Clearly and unequivocally, the Ridgefield Board of Ethics agreed. In their report, the Board completely exonerated the accused of any wrongdoing whatsoever. The official Board of Ethics ruling can be found at: www.ridgefieldgop.org It is beyond comprehension that the DTC Chair would have the audacity to be quoted in The Ridgefield Press as saying of the candidates, “They need to be held accountable for acting in an illegal way and a political way”. Clearly, it is the DTC Chair’s efforts to foment controversy that were nothing more than a political smokescreen. Her hypocrisy speaks for itself. I would urge all citizens of Ridgefield to realize that this sideshow put into serious jeopardy the successful union negotiations our Republican members of the Board of Education conducted. This is a very real, very concrete example of just how “playing politics” threatened to cost the citizens of our town millions of dollars. And it is shameful. Susan Cocco, Chairman of the Ridgefield Democrat Town Committee, owes all the citizens of our town an apology.

Final Report in the Matter of the Complaint dated October 8, 2009
